History of Cottage Grove
Most early settlers of Cottage Grove came from New England. James Sullivan Norris, a grain farmer, made claim to a section of farm land in 1842 and he became known as the founding father of Cottage Grove. Cottage Grove then remained a rural township for over a century. Cottage Grove became a city in 1974. By 2000, Cottage Grove was home to about 30,000 people and was one of Minnesota’s fastest growing communities.
